| Article number: kb-44 | Q. What are advantages of IMAP over POP3?
A. Normally, POP Access is provided by all hosting service providers but IMAP is normally not provided by those who are selling those Mega Space Mailboxes as they would never want you to really use up the space that they offer (Safe Overselling).
With IMAP if your client is configured properly, you have following advantages over POP:
- Can work from different computers and yet have account synchronized on all of them.
- IMAP works on all folders whereas POP only works on Inbox.
- IMAP allows you to Save Outgoing mail on server whereas POP doesn't have that feature.
- IMAP Works on Headers of Mail, wehreas POP works on Entire Mail. IMAP is thus faster.
You can set your mail client in IMAP Mode and reap all the benifits of IMAP. Working in IMAP Mode you can handle all folders, actions on your client as if you were handling it directly on server.
